"Sharing What God Has Given, With Glad and Generous Hearts"
Hours of operation: Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
The Culpeper Food Closet is an outreach mission of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. With community support, we provide food, personal care products and some household items to our Culpeper County families in need.
While the Food Closet is open from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, caring for clients, it takes many additional hours to keep our operation running smoothly. In addition to our foodgivers, we have people working behind the scenes to purchase supplies, stock shelves, pick up and sort donations, repackage bulk items, keep the freezers defrosted, write thank-you letters, keep records, and speak to civic and church groups.
Most of the food and other items are donated by businesses and individuals of Culpeper, along with St. Stephen’s parishioners. There are many area churches that make regular monetary and food donations. A number of commercial establishments donate products. Schools, organizations, neighborhoods, clubs and the scouts hold food drives.
We also have collection drop boxes located around town. With the monetary donations we receive, items that have not been donated are purchased .
The 80 to 100 families we help each week are referred to us by the Department of Social Services. Many of our families don’t need help on a regular basis; they may have an unforeseen hardship, such as illness, job loss or even a car breakdown. We offer these families hope and encouragement, with three meals a day and other necessary items for all family members, depending on their referral.
It is our mission to help our neighbors in the Culpeper community, by "Sharing what God has given, with glad and generous hearts."
